A case has been registered against ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ fame Munmun Dutta on Tuesday evening after her video allegedly carrying objectionable words for the SC/ST community went viral on the social media.
Dalit leader Manoj Parmar has filed a complaint against Munmun. DSP Bhanwar Singh Sisodia has confirmed this and said that an inquiry will be conducted in the manner of SC and ST Act.
What Munmun dutta said?
In her make-up video, Munmun had said that she wants to look good and then used a casteist slur for saying that she does not want to look that way.
In video she says, She said, “Lip tint ko halka sa blush ki tarah laga liya hai because main YouTube pe aane wali hoon aur main achha dikhn chahti hoon. Bh***i ki tarah nahi dikhna chahti hoon.”
The term was minted by upper castes in the 19th century to indicate members of a Dalit caste engaged in cleanliness and hand-operated scavenging.
Wrote an apology on social media
After being probed for her casteist smear, Munmun Dutta cropped her video and also wrote an apology on social media. She wrote, “This is in reference to a video I posted yesterday where in one word used by me has been misinterpreted. It was never said with the intent of insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone’s feelings. Because of my language barrier, I was genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word. Once I was made aware of it meaning I immediately took the part down (sic).”
She further wrote, “I sincerely would like to apologise to every single person who have been unintentionally hurt by the usage of the word and I sincerely regret for the same (sic).”
