The latest buzz in Bollywood circles surrounds the release of the Crew movie, featuring leading ladies Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kriti Sanon, and Tabu. Directed by Rajesh A Krishnan, this film promises a refreshing take on the heist drama genre, marking a significant stride towards women-driven narratives in Indian cinema.
The Plot
In “Crew,” we follow the journey of three vibrant flight attendants – Geeta Sethi (Tabu), Jasmine Kohli (Kareena), and Divya Rana (Kriti) – grappling with financial crisis amid their employment at Kohinoor Airlines. While Geeta dreams of opening a restaurant with her husband, Jasmine aspires to be an entrepreneur, and Divya hides her true desire of becoming a pilot from her family.
Seizing Opportunity Amidst Crisis
When the trio stumbles upon an unexpected fortune in gold belonging to their boss, who collapses suddenly mid-flight, they decide to alter their fates. Discovering their superiors’ involvement in gold smuggling to Dubai, they devise a plan to claim a share of the riches. However, their pursuit of wealth comes with unforeseen consequences.
Critique and Performances
Clocking at 2 hours and 3 minutes, Crew showcases commendable performances by the leading ladies. However, the script could have benefited from some additional polish. At times, the jokes miss the mark, and the supporting cast, including Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma, doesn’t get a chance to fully shine.
A Step Forward for Female-Led Films
Despite its flaws, “Crew” is a welcome addition to the world of female-centric movies in Bollywood. The dazzling performances by Kareena, Kriti, and Tabu showcase their undeniable talent and potential.
