Kolkata, Jan 24 Noted painter Wasin Kapoor died of a heart attack on Monday at his Kolkata residence. This information was given by his family members. He was 71 years old.
He breathed his last at 11.30 am, but till the night before that, he was fully active. Kapoor’s family friend and famous doctor Fuad Halim told, ”Kapoor had heart ailment before, but he was treated. He had attended an art program last month. He died suddenly.”
Kapoor was born on January 3, 1951, in Lucknow, but he settled with his family in Kolkata. Kolkata has been the workplace of many famous artists.
Kapoor obtained the first-class Diploma in Fine Arts from the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship, in the year 1971. After this, he soon made a place in the art world of Kolkata.
Kapoor began to regularly hold solo exhibitions of art from the early 1970s.
Kapoor was appreciated for his series ‘Kolkata Ke Rikshaw Chalak’. He won many awards in his life. His works were displayed at Victoria Memorial, Lalit Kala Akademi, Academy of Fine Arts, Birla Academy of Arts and Culture, CIMA Art Gallery in Kolkata, Lali Kala Akademi, National Gallery of Modern Art, Wadhera Art Gallery, Delhi.
His works were also exhibited in Lyon and Marseille in Paris, the capital of France.
