Farhan Akhtar birthday special: An actor we appreciate, a singer we don’t; check out his five undercut gems

Farhan Akhtar birthday: A versatile genius, Farhan Akhtar is turning 49 today. An actor, producer, director and singer, Farhan dons many feathers in his cap. Despite being a part of hits like Rock On and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, it wasn’t until the release of Milkha Singh that Farhan Akhtar garnered the mainstream popularity he always deserved. However, he is still under appreciated as a singer. In fact, trolls have even gone on to compare his voice to that of ‘thousand croaked frogs’.

Farhan once spoke about the criticism to his voice and said that he knows his voice isn’t in the vicinity of a playback singer. “I totally understand that my voice is not a conventional playback singer’s voice. There is a certain quality of work that is associated with playback singing. My skill level or tone is not in that vicinity. So I don’t sing for other people. I absolutely enjoy it, and I am not apologetic about it at all,” he added.

Despite the trolls and criticism, Farhan has given Bollywood many chart busters over the years. On the joyous occasion of his birthday, let’s take a look at some of his gems that will definitely strike a chord with you.

1. Senorita

We have all danced to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara song Senorita. Composed by Shankhar-Ehsaan-Loy, the song is still a party hit. Crooned by Farhan Akhtar in his husky voice, the song has been penned by Prasoon Joshi.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a classic among today’s youth. Its songs have definitely managed to resonate with the millennials as well as the Generation Z. However, it wouldn’t have been the gem it is if not for the poem Toh Zinda Ho Tum, read by Farhan Akhtar, beautifully went with the flow of the movie.

2. Toh Zinda Ho Tum

3. Socha Hai

Socha Hai made us ask many questions, quite literally. Bringing the rock culture into main stream, Farhan Akhtar’s voice definitely made us sing along the peppy track.

4. Ahista Ahista

The swoon-worthy song was sung by Farhan Akhtar for the film Shadi Ke Side Effects, in which he also featured in the starring role. The slow melody of the song is definitely something today’s Bollywood songs are missing.

5. Zinda

Ever feeling low? Zinda from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag will definitely fuel with you all the energy you need to get going. Sung by Farhan Akhtar along with Siddharth Mahdevan, the song is perfect for all the motivation you need in life.
