Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has responded to the criticism surrounding the casting of Ranveer Singh in the lead role of Don 3. Akhtar has reassured fans that Singh will excel in the role.
Farhan Akhtar acknowledged the similarities between this situation and when he cast Shah Rukh Khan to replace Amitabh Bachchan as Don in the earlier installment. He highlighted that there was also skepticism back then, but Shah Rukh Khan’s performance was well-received.

Akhtar expressed his excitement about the upcoming project, emphasizing that Ranveer Singh is an excellent choice for the role of Don. He acknowledged that Singh is both excited and nervous about stepping into such an iconic character’s shoes.
Farhan Akhtar stated
During an interview with BBC Asian Network, Farhan Akhtar stated, “I’m just really looking forward to get it going. I mean Ranveer is amazing. He’s great for the part. He’s also as you can imagine, really excited and really nervous, about the thing you’re filling some big shoes before you. But we went through the same emotional process when Shah Rukh did it and everyone was like ‘Oh my God, how can you replace Mr. Bachchan?.’ That whole thing happened then.”
The production for Don 3 is scheduled to commence in January 2025, and Farhan Akhtar intends to release the film in the same year.
