Sharmila Tagore weighs in on Indian Cinema
Sharmila spoke about Animal and said, “There was a film called Animal recently… beyond violence, there was misogyny. But there were a lot of women in the audience who said, ‘I want somebody to love me like that.’ Any film that runs a lot, you cannot really rubbish it. You have to engage with it, try and understand it that what exactly is happening here.”
The actress praised Laapata Ladies and shared that small-budget films will do better than big-budget films. She said, “Laapataa Ladies did well even theatrically as it was within the budget, whereas Animal spent a lot of money and made a huge amount of money also. There is that stark difference (in budgets) and it will continue. I don’t see it in the near future that it is going to change… So, the smaller films will also get their money back.”
The actress Praises Ajay Devgan’s Maidaan
Ajay Devgan’s sports drama clashed with Akshay Kumar’s BMCM and it was based on the life of S.A. Rahim who was Indian football’s team coach during the Asia Cup win. The actress praised the film and said, “Maidaan for instance is a very inspiring film and the hero of the film is a musalman and it’s dated it’s at a particular time so you can’t fault the film in any way. At the same time, it inspires a certain community so those kind of films will be made and will run.”
