Seoul Halloween Tragedy: In an unfortunate incident, as many as 159 people were killed and scores more were injured at a deadly stampede at a packed Halloween event in Itaewon, Seoul. The tragedy has brought the country to a standstill with South Korea’s President Yoon Suk-yeol declaring a period of national mourning Sunday. Many events and concerts have been cancelled as the country grapples with the tragedy. Several K-pop stars and their management companies have announced cancellation of their programmes in light of the incident.
BigHit Postpones All Activities Related To Jin’s Astronaut
BigHit has postponed all activities relate to Jin’s Astronaut concert. The agency took to Twitter and confirmed that the listening party and release of the lyric video has been indefinitely postponed.
The tweet read, “We would like to inform you that the event and content below have been postponed. 12 PM, October 30 (KST) Stationhead Listening Party, 0 AM, October 31 (KST) ‘The Astronaut’ Lyric Video. The changed schedules will be announced through a separate notice. We ask for your generous understanding. Thank you.”
Girls Generation Cancels Halloween Party
SM Entertainment announced that it has cancelled its annual Halloween party in the wake of last night’s tragedy in Itaewon.
The agency had planned to stream the red carpet for its “SMTOWN WONDERLAND” bash online for the first time this year. However, it later announced the cancellation of entire party. Read their statement below:
“This is SM Entertainment.
We are informing you that the live broadcast of the “SMTOWN WONDERLAND 2022” red carpet, which was scheduled to be streamed live for free today for KWANGYA CLUB ACE members on the global platform Beyond LIVE for approximately one hour starting from 6:15 p.m., has been cancelled.
Because the “SMTOWN WONDERLAND 2022” event itself has been cancelled, there will be no livestream of the red carpet either. We ask for fans’ understanding.
Thank you.”
J-hope Deletes Halloween Post
BTS’ main rapper and dancer J-hope deleted his cheery post for Halloween posted just hours before the tragedy shook the world.
Inkigayo Cancelled
SBS music program Inkigayo that airs every Sunday was also cancelled to mourn the tragedy. According to K-media reports, agencies of multiple artists originally slated to appear on the ‘Inkigayo’ episode have cancelled the broadcas out of respect for what happened, with many of these agencies asking for fans’ understanding.
Seoul Halloween Tragedy
Local media reported that up to 100,000 individuals, largely in their teens and 20s, descended on the popular Itaewon district of the capital to celebrate Halloween, crowding the area’s winding streets and narrow passageways.
The fire department said at least 151 people, including 19 foreigners, were killed in the stampede. The ministry of interior informed around 150 more were injured.
