Mithun Chakraborty: Legendary actor of Bollywood and BJP politician Mithun Chakraborty is all set to receive the biggest honour in Indian Cinema. On Monday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting revealed that the 54th Dadasaheb Phalke Award receiver is Mithun Chakraborty. The Hum Paanch actor, 74 has been a pioneer for many changes in the Indian entertainment industry. He is being awarded for his major contributions to the silver screen.
Mithun Chakraborty To Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award
On Monday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to his X account and announced the big Bollywood news. In his post, he wrote, ‘Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.’ Mithun Da who has set the record for receiving the national for his debut film will be back on the stage for the biggest Cinema award in India. The actor will be presented with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award on 8th October at the 70th National Film Awards 2024.
Later, the official page of the Information and Broadcast Ministry also posted about the Awards on X. It said, ‘Honouring the legendary actor of Indian Cinema! Veteran actor #MithunChakraborty to be conferred with 54th #DadasahebPhalkeAward in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the silver screen.’
Won Many Russian Hearts and Introduced Disco Dance!
If we talk about the achievements of the legendary actor Mithun da, the actor started shining through his first movie. Mithun Chakraborty started his cinema journey with Mirgayaa in 1976 and won the National Award for Best Actor. Once he commenced his journey there was no going back. Mithun Chakraborty who’ll receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 70th National Films Awards has won 3 national awards already. He has also won Padma Bhushan and 2 filmfare awards. The actor graced the Indian cinema 19 times as a lead in the same year 1989, his record is yet to be broken.
The popularity of Mithun Da was so high that after legendary star Raj Kapoor, he became the only actor to have insane popularity in Russia. Once, popular music director and singer Bappi Lehari revealed about his popularity in Russia. He said, ”Everyone in Russia only wanted to know the latest about Mithun who has become popular in the country after my songs ‘I am a Disco Dancer’ and ‘Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja’ from the film ‘Disco Dancer.’
Mithun Chakraborty also plays a significant role in introducing dance and disco culture in India. With his dance film Disco Dancer, the actor garnered massive popularity. His film earned over INR 1 Billion worldwide and became the first Indian film to do so. Mithun Chakraborty’s movies include Sheesha, Phool Aur Angar, Aadmi, Agneepath and many more. The veteran actor and member of BJP has also judged several seasons of the dance reality show Dance India Dance. He has brought its concept from the Bengali show Dance Bangla Dance.
