Game of Thrones prequel: Fans of Game of Thrones are ecstatic. A brand new GoT prequel spinoff based on Aegon the Conquer is in the pipeline. In fact reports say it is being “actively discussed” at HBO.
As the talks are in an early stage and no writer is onboard as yet, HBO is already looking for one, reports said. What’s more, HBO and Warner Bros. may produce a film on the same. This will then lead into a proper series.
While right now the plans are still very premature, but the idea of a movie and series about Aegon’s Conquest is enough to excite the fans.
R.R. Martin’s book
Aegon’s Conquest forms the basis for the beginning of George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, as well as the start of Targaryen rule over Westeros. Set 300 years before Game of Thrones, the new spinoff would dramatize how Aegon I Targaryen and his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya first came to Westeros and used their dragons to bring six of the seven kingdoms under their rule.
Aegon’s Conquest includes lot of iconic moments in the Game of Thrones mythos — the burning of Harrenhal, the Field of Fire, the creation of the Iron Throne, to name a few. Only Dorne resisted the might of Aegon and his sisters, and even that was a brutal affair.
Conquest of Westeros
The series will revolve around how Aegon and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, used their army and three dragons to conquer six of the seven kingdoms in Westeros and how Argon became the founder of the Targaryen Dynasty. Those events take place approximately 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.
If things turn out to be true, it will be massive. HBO has been quite cautious with their approach to spinoffs for Thrones, but with the success of last year’s prequel show House of the Dragon, they seem to have understood its potential.
