‘Groomed as a Sex Slave by Tamil Director at 18,’ Malayalam Actress Sowmya Reveals Shocking Allegations

Malayalam Actress Sowmya Alleges Grooming as a "Sex Slave" by Tamil Director at 18, Shares Harrowing #MeToo Experience

In the middle of the current Hema report and the #MeToo movement in the Malayalam cinema industry, Tamil actress going by her screen name Sowmya, has made a startling revelation about her horrific abuse experience. Sowmya told NDTV that when she was just eighteen years old, a Tamil filmmaker groomed her to be a “sex slave” without naming the accused.

Approached by Director Through College Theatre Group

Sowmya disclosed that her connection with the director began when she was a college student and part of a theatre group. The Tamil filmmaker had approached her father, offering her a role in his film. From their first meeting, however, she felt uncomfortable around him. Despite her discomfort, she felt obligated to work with him as he had invested significant money in casting her for the role.

Intimidation on Film Sets

Once filming began, the director’s behavior became more unsettling. He would give her the “silent treatment,” which Sowmya found intimidating. Fearing she might upset him, she tried to stay in his good books and avoid confrontation.

Grooming and Abuse at the Director’s Home

Sowmya recounted how the director, along with his wife, invited her to their home on several occasions, pampering her with food and milkshakes. “One day, when his wife wasn’t around, he kissed me while calling me his daughter. I froze in shock,” she said. Filled with shame and confusion, she felt unable to confide in her friends, fearing she had done something wrong.

Manipulation and Rape

The situation took a darker turn when the director began manipulating her into physical submission. Sowmya revealed that he raped her and continued to abuse her for nearly a year. “This man completely used my body to his advantage,” she shared, explaining that she had been mentally groomed into submission, which made it even more difficult to escape the abuse.

Trauma and Recovery

The director’s manipulation extended beyond physical abuse; he would refer to Sowmya as his daughter while also expressing a twisted desire to have a child with her. “He messed with my brain… it took me 30 years to recover from this sense of shame,” Sowmya confessed.
