Guru Dutt’s sister and Taare Zameen Par actor Lalita Lajmi passes away at 90

Lalita Lajmi, an experienced artist, passed away on February 13 at the age of 90. She was a well-known artist and the late Indian auteur Guru Dutt’s sister. Self-taught artist Lalita made a brief cameo appearance in the 2007 movie “Taare Zameen Par,” which starred Aamir Khan as an art teacher. The Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation announced Lajmi’s tragic passing on social media.

We are profoundly grieved by the news of artist Lalitha Lajmi’s departure, the comment read, sharing an old photo of Lalita with her masterpiece. Lajmi was a self-taught artist who had a passion for traditional dance.

Her artwork, “Dance of Life and Death,” demonstrates how her works included elements of performance and sorrow. The inspiration for Lajmi’s earlier works came from her own experiences and observations, however the tension between men and women was revealed in her later works. Her works were also influenced by Indian movies including those by Raj Kapoor, Satyajit Ray, and her brother Guru Dutt.
