Today is the 88th birthday of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. He was born on 26 September in 1932 in the Punjab, which is now in Pakistan.
Manmohan Singh is known for his simplicity but also for speeding up the economy.
Manmohan Singh was the PM of the country from 2004 to 2014.
After Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of the country for the longest time. Manmohan Singh is considered a veteran of economic affairs. Manmohan Singh is currently a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan.
He showed a new and stronger path to the country’s economic system even before he became Prime Minister. That is why the country remembers him more as an economist.
Manmohan Singh was also the Governor of Reserve Bank of India. Meanwhile, in 1991, he took drastic measures towards economic reforms. With those steps, the Indian economy gained a great momentum.
He took important decisions during the tenure of the Finance Minister such as foreign trade liberalization, financial liberalization, tax reforms and foreign investment avenues. These decisions not only gave oxygen to the economy but also strengthened it.
