Harry Potter series: Warner Bros. about to close 7-season deal on HBO Max

Harry Potter series: JK Rowling’s best selling book series Harry Potter may soon turn into a television series. Warner Bros. Discovery is in fact close to finalizing a deal to produce the series for HBO Max, according to reports.

The project would be directly based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling original seven-book series rather than an in-universe spinoff. Each season would reportedly be based on one of the books, suggesting an ongoing franchise that would stretch for years for the studio.

Rowling’s creative involvement

Rowling is likely to maintain a degree of creative involvement with the series. However, she would not serve as the primary creator.

Discussions between Warner Bros. Discovery and Rowling are in a preliminary state. The studio is looking to house the series under its streaming service HBO Max, according to a report by the American entertainment magazine Variety.

Warner Bros. has been planning a Harry Potter television series for long. Earlier it was speculated that the project would emerge during January 2021.

On April 12 Warner Bros. Discovery will make a presentation for the project for investors and the general public.

Blockbuster film series

Warner Bros. has already adapted each book in Harry Potter series into a blockbuster film series. From Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone  to Harry and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the entire project of eight films was completed between 2001 – 2011. The films generated more than $7.7 billion at the global box office and sealed Harry Potter as a pop-culture icon.

Over the years Harry Potter has been behind theme park attractions, the spinoff film series Fantastic Beasts, a hit Broadway production in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the recent hit video game Hogwarts Legacy.
