The murder of Hong Kong model Abby Choi has drawn comparisons to the plot of the Korean movie Parasite, which portrays a poor family infiltrating and exploiting a wealthy household. In Parasite, a man from a poor family obtains a job as a tutor for a wealthy family using falsified documents. Gradually, the entire family infiltrates the household and begins to exploit the wealthy family’s resources. Netizens have been comparing Choi’s murder to certain scenes in the film, as police found her dismembered body in a refrigerator in a suburban house rented by Kwong Kau, located about a 30-minute drive from mainland China. Police also discovered minced human tissue at the crime scene, which was in a makeshift butcher shop on the ground floor of a three-story house.
Alex Kwong arrested for the murder of the model
Choi’s ex-husband, known as Alex Kwong, and his entire family were arrested after her murder. Kwong was allegedly involved in a scam in February 2015 in which he scammed four individuals out of HK$1 million worth of gold jewelry. The connection between Kwong’s alleged scam and Choi’s murder remains unclear. The shocking nature of the crime and the parallels drawn between the murder and the film Parasite have generated widespread interest and concern.
Four members of the same family, including Choi’s ex-husband, have been charged with the murder of Hong Kong model, after police discovered what are believed to be parts of her dismembered body in a large stainless steel soup pot. The family members have been identified as Alex Kwong, his brother Anthony, their father Kwong Kau and Alex Kwong’s mother Jenny Li, who has been charged with perverting the course of justice. All four were denied bail and have not yet entered a plea. A fifth suspect, a 47-year-old woman, was arrested on Sunday in connection with the case.
Choi’s ex-husband Alex Kwong and his family have a history of criminal activity. In 2015, Alex Kwong was allegedly involved in a scam that saw him and others steal HK$1 million worth of gold jewelry. Meanwhile, his father, Kwong Kau, is a former police officer known as “Brother Qiu” and has been reported to have a “dark side” by various Hong Kong news agencies.
