After many years of their separation, Aishwarya Rai once talked about famous director Sanjay Leela Bhansali selecting her as Mastani for his renowned film. On Koffee with Karan’s couch, the actress mentioned that she couldn’t work with the kind of team SLB had in his mind. She said, “Circumstantially, I could not work with the kind of team that he was looking at.” Karan Johar asks, “What Circumstances?” To which Aishwarya says, “Well, I was game to play Mastani, but not with the Bajirao he had in mind. Which was evident probably nationally.”
Her statement regarded Bajirao created a stir in the entertainment world at that time. Fans tried to guess that probably Sanjay Leela Bhansali had Salman Khan in his mind as Bajirao.
