India oscar entry 2023: India is going big at the Oscars. Five films from the country have made it to the reminder list which was released by The Academy of Motion Picture on Tuesday. RRR, Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files and Kantara are eligible for the 2023 Oscars. The films have to now content with 301 others from across the world to make it to the final nomination list.
Marathi films ‘Me Vasantrao’, ‘Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi’, R Madhavan’s ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, ‘Iravin Nizhal’ and ‘Vikrant Rona’ are also a part of the list. India’s official Oscar entry in the Foreign Film category this year is Pan Nalin’s ‘Chhello Show’ (Last Film Show).
This shortlist includes films that will compete in a variety of categories. On Thursday, January 12 at 9:00 a.m. PST, 9,579 eligible members will vote, and the official Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24.
Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri says ‘this is just the beginning’
Expressing his excitement for ‘The Kashmir Files’, director Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, “#TheKashmirFiles has been shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of @TheAcademy . It’s one of the 5 films from India. I wish all of them very best. A great year for Indian cinema. #PallaviJoshi #MithunChakraborty @DarshanKumaar @AnupamPKher are all shortlisted for best actor categories. It’s just the beginning. A long long road ahead. Pl bless them all.”
Rishab Shetty pens gratitude note
Rishab Shetty, who wrote, directed and played the lead role in Kantara, also shared his happiness on the matter. “We are overjoyed to share that ‘Kantara’ has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to sharing this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the #Oscars #Kantara @hombalefilms #HombaleFilms,” he tweeted.
The Oscars for the year 2023 will take place on 12 March 2023.
