Irrfan Khan birth anniversary: If actor Irrfan Khan was alive, he would be celebrating his 55th birthday today. The actor who proved his acting skills from Bollywood to Hollywood, died in 2020 at the age of 53 after battling cancer. In his short lifespan, he received the National Film Award, Padma Shri, IIFA Award, Dubai International Film Festival, and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his notable acting. Here we take a look at some of his best movies.

TALVAR

A thriller-drama directed by Meghna Gulzar and written by Vishal Bhardwaj, Talvar is based on a real-life incident involving two homicides. Irrfan played a skilled investigator who is faced with a a number of conflicting theories as to who were the killers. He received the highest ratings on IMDB.

Slumdog Millionaire

The film won eight Academy Awards and several Indian awards. Directed by Danny Boyle, it is an inspirational tale of a Mumbai slumkid’s rise from poverty to riches. A movie with a great heart, Slumdog Millionaire cares deeply about the people in it.

Hindi Medium

Directed by Saket Chaudhary, Hindi Medium saw the funny side of Irrfan. You can’t help chuckle to hear Raj Batra’s (Irrfan Khan’s) funny English. His ambition to provide the best education to his child sees him struggling to fit into a class hierarchy whose exclusivity is based on deduction. It’s an endless story of dreams, disgrace, and resistance.

Life of Pi

Based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name, Life of Pi is an adventure-drama movie that was produced and directed by Ang Lee in 2012. When a catastrophic storm hits, Pi finds himself alone on a lifeboat with a 450-pound Bengal tiger for companion. Pi has to dig deep inside himself to find his own confidence, bravery, and cleverness in order to escape this extremely dangerous position. The movie, which is a version of the same-named book, stars Irrfan Khan as a grown-up Pi Patel.

The Lunchbox

Ritesh Batra wrote and helmed the film The Lunchbox. The Lunchbox was screened at the International Critics’ Week at the 2013 Film Festival of Cannes and it won the Critics Week Viewers’ Choice Award. A housewife and an older man are introduced through an error in service in Mumbai’s renownedly effective lunchbox supply network.

Paan Singh Tomar

Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, Paan Singh Tomar is about a famous athlete, a gold medalist at the Indian National Olympics and a warrior in the Indian Army, who is compelled to rebel against the system and becomes one of the most dreaded dacoits. The critics and viewers praised Irrfan Khan for his portrayal of the movie’s titular character, saying that he gave the role credit.

Maqbool

A crime drama directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Maqbool was inspired by William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Bombay mafia don Jahangir Khan has Maqbool (Irrfan) as his perfect guy. Irrfan gave one of his best performances.
