Jehanabad review: Sudhir Mishra’s Jehanabad is finally streaming on SonyLiv. The series follows famous jailbreak incident of Bihar which took place in 2005. The incident saw Naxalites staging one of the biggest jailbreaks in the country during election-time which shook the entire nation. In this incident, 370 inmates managed to escape the jail. While it may sounds like a true crime thriller, the SonyLiv series has a love story running parallel to it.
Jehanabad plot
Jehanabad begins with Kasturi Mishra (Harshita Gaur) ready to take the big plunge decked up in a bridal avatar. Waiting for her dream wedding come true, Kasturi’s world comes crumbling down when Abhimanyu Singh (Ritwik Bhowmik), her husband, and his baraat gets attacked by the naxals. The naxals kidnap Abhimanyu, leaving Kasturi baffled. She then makes revenge her life’s motto.
The story when goes into the flashback mode where young Kasturi falls in love with her English professor, Abhimanyu. Unaware of what lies in future, Kasturi leaves no stone unturned to get Abhimanyu’s attention. While he first hesitates, he later comes around and submits to Kasturi’s dedication. All this happens while the naxals plan an attack to rescue their commander Deepak Kumar (Parambrata Chatterjee). Guruji AKA Jagmohan Kumar (Suneel Sinha), along with his comrades, is planning a big attack on the Jehanbad jail to rescue the commander.
The series highlights caste-based violence which is quite prevent in Bihar. The disparity between upper and lower caste have been quite visible in the state. The show has been directed by Rajeev Barnwal, who leaves no stone unturned to adapt the ground reality. He does his best for an honest portrayal of the conditions in the state and how the police are hand-in-gloves with diplomats.

Performance of the cast
Jehanabad boasts of flawless performances with its talented caste. The first half of the series takes quite some time to settle, the characters evolve more in the second half, getting more scope to emote. However, at times, the unnecessary ted talk gets annoying, the cast still manages to put an impeccable work of body forward.
Jehanabad also has soul soothing playlist. However, the series disappoints its ending. In an attempt to leave room for a sequel, the makers went way too far with the stretching part. Based in hinterland, the show, nevertheless, makes for an intense binge-watch.
