Kill,’ an intense revenge story from India, is about to receive a Hollywood remake, which is great news for fans of action films. Chad Stahelski, who directed Keanu Reeves in all four of the John Wick films, will direct the remake. This project is being undertaken by Stahelski’s production business, 87Eleven Entertainment.
A Stellar Cast and Creative Team
The original ‘Kill’ stars debutant Lakshya Lalwani, popular actor-choreographer Raghav Juyal, and the talented Tanya Maniktala. This violent tale of vengeance is written and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat. The film is produced by Bollywood heavyweights Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta under Dharma Productions, along with Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain from Sikhya Entertainment. Indian audiences can catch ‘Kill’ in theaters on July 5, while the US release is set for July 4.
Hollywood Excitement
Chad Stahelski, excited about the remake, praised the original movie: “’Kill’ is one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently. Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. It’s exciting to be developing an English-language version—we have big shoes to fill and I’m looking forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet, and Achin to achieve that.”
A Landmark Moment for Indian Cinema
Adam Fogelson, Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, officially announced the remake. The producers of ‘Kill’ expressed their joy, calling it a significant win for Indian cinema. Their statement read, “Partnering with Lionsgate, the award-winning studio behind genre-defining action movies, has been incredibly gratifying. This announcement, coming before the original film’s release, is unprecedented and a big win for Indian cinema. We are truly honoured.”
‘Kill’ at TIFF
‘Kill’ had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film’s synopsis on TIFF’s official website describes it as a relentless martial arts thriller where a passenger train bound for New Delhi becomes a battlefield of brutal close-quarters combat between commandos and a 40-strong army of invading bandits.
Lakshya Lalwani’s Big Break
Interestingly, Lakshya Lalwani, the lead actor in ‘Kill,’ was initially set to debut in the now-cancelled Karan Johar-produced film ‘Dostana 2.’
