Kalki 2898 AD Review: One of the most anticipated movies of 2024 is finally in the cinemas and the audience can witness the dystopian universe made by the director Nag Ashwin. Fans had a lot of expectations from the film and they are expecting the film to be the biggest of 2024 with extraordinary action and unique performances. But did the movie live up to the expectations? Check out the movie review to know about the film before going to watch it in the cinema.

Story

The story is based in a dystopian universe where only one city is left and that is Kashi. The ruler of Complex, Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) imagines a new world and he tries to develop a fertility lab to make it a reality. He tests a lot of women and he finds out that Sumathi (Deepika Padukone) can be the perfect candidate for his experiment.

Bhairava (Prabhas) a dangerous bounty hunter wants to enter the Complex to make his life better. At the same time, Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) is on a mission to save Sumathi from Yaskin. Prabhas gets the assignment to bring Sumathi to Yaskin and that’s when he clashes with Ashwatthama in a war. Will Bhairava catch Sumathi and bring her to Yaskin? Why did Yaskin want to Kill Sumathi? Why Ashwatthama is saving the life of Sumathi? What is the connection between Ashwatthama and Bhairava? These are some of the questions that will be answered in the movie.

Performance and Plus Points

As Bhairava, a bounty hunter with a quirky disposition, humour, avarice, and a crafty attitude, Tollywood’s “Darling,” Prabhas, steals the show. He perfectly captures Nag Ashwin’s idea for the main part. Prabhas is a wonderful match for the role of Bhairava, and his moments with his virtual friend Bujji—voiced by Keerthy Suresh—are delightful. The surprise of Prabhas’ second part must be seen on the big screen alone.

The film’s strong point is the legendary Amitabh Bachchan’s depiction of Ashwatthama. He seems to have been destined for this part. He has a captivating on-screen presence; his little speech says a lot. Cinematic gold may be found in the conflict moments involving Prabhas and Amitabh.

In the Telugu film, Deepika Padukone makes a striking debut as Sumathi (SUM-80), a woman who faces enormous obstacles to realize the brighter future that the people of Shambala hope for. The emotional complexity of her character is captivating, and Nag Ashwin’s writing includes a few poignant, heartfelt passages.

The legendary Kamal Haasan appears as Supreme Yaskin, the enemy, and captivates the audience with his ferocious facial expressions and delivery of a tough line. There’s an unsettling depth to his voice. Kamal has transformed into an entirely new persona, putting up an incredible performance as the villain.

Nag Ashwin has also delivered an amazing performance as a director. The second half of the film is filled with extravagant and high-octane action scenes. The Mahabharat section was executed amazingly and it will leave the audience on the edge of their seat.

What didn’t work in the movie?

The film has a challenging first half because it is slow-paced. The scenes between Prabhas and Disha Patani lack engagement and the song set in complex feels unnecessary. The makers should have presented the connection between Bujji and Bhairava with more facts. Until the intermission, a few potentially exciting situations are misused. The effect of Shambala and its mission may have been increased with more emotional depth in the second half.

Conclusion

Overall, Kalki 2898 AD is among the best movies in Tollywood, skillfully fusing a mythical setting with a futuristic one. Prabhas’s outstanding representation of two parts is impressive and will satisfy his admirers. Deepika Padukone is excellent as her character, while Amitabh Bachchan gives a fantastic performance. The intense exchanges between Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan and the explosive effect of the intermission are just amazing. The movie features amazing action sequences and exceptional situations to keep viewers interested.
