Kangana Ranaut has been a hot topic in the Bollywood industry for quite some time. She is set to make a strong impact with her upcoming film “Emergency.” Known for her dominance in Bollywood, Kangana has now also ventured into politics, where she continues to stir controversy. Recently, she has been in the spotlight due to her outspoken remarks on the farmers’ protest. While the BJP issued a warning to her for her statements, Kangana remains at the center of public attention for her controversies. It’s worth mentioning that Kangana once referred to India’s independence as “alms” and has openly criticised Alia Bhatt.
Kangana Ranaut’s Controversial Statement on India’s Independence
Kangana once landed in trouble for her remarks while praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She went overboard in her admiration, claiming that the country gained “real” independence in 2014 when Modi came to power. According to her, the freedom obtained in 1947 was nothing more than alms.
Called Taapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar “B-Grade Actresses”
Kangana’s bluntness also surfaced when she openly labeled Taapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar as “B-grade actresses” and “chaploos.” She also mentioned that actresses like Taapsee, Richa Chadha, and Swara still have outstanding bills to pay.
Targeted Shabana Azmi
Kangana didn’t spare legendary actress Shabana Azmi either. In 2019, during the Pulwama attack, Kangana criticised Shabana for her planned visit to Pakistan, accusing her of being part of the “tukde-tukde” gang. She stated, “People like Shabana Azmi calling for halt on cultural exchange – they are the ones who promote Bharat Tere Tukde Honge gangs… why did they organise an event in Karachi in the first place when Pakistani artistes have been banned after Uri attacks? And now they are trying to save face?”
Feud with Karan Johar
Kangana Ranaut’s feud with Karan Johar is one of the most talked-about rivalries in Bollywood, largely centered around the issue of nepotism. The tension between them escalated after Kangana famously labeled Karan as the “flagbearer of nepotism” during her appearance on his popular chat show Koffee with Karan in 2017. She accused him of favoring star kids and sidelining outsiders like herself. Kangana didn’t hold back, calling him a “movie mafia” who only promotes those with industry connections.
Mocked Alia Bhatt
Kangana also took a dig at Alia Bhatt, mocking her performance in Gully Boy. She said, “I feel embarrassed by all the noise around Gully Boy. What was so praiseworthy about that loud-mouthed girl character? It’s the same old trope of a strong-headed girl representing women’s empowerment. The idea of good acting in Bollywood is highly flawed. Please stop showering star kids with unnecessary media love. If you keep giving importance to mediocre work, the standards will never improve.”
