Following the nationwide election of all 543 Lok Sabha seats, the counting process is underway. Trends indicate that with a lead in 293 seats, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister Modi, is approaching the majority threshold. In the meanwhile, 232 seats are in the lead for the opposition.
The ‘Mandi’ constituency, a crucial Himachal Pradesh seat, is garnering media attention during the ongoing vote counting process for all Lok Sabha seats. In the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, Bollywood actress and current BJP leader Kangana Ranaut beat Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh by a margin of 74,555 votes. Discussions regarding whether her name or the efforts of the BJP had a greater impact on her win have been aroused by this.
Kangana’s Name or BJP’s Work?
The BJP’s work has also played a crucial role in Kangana Ranaut’s victory. The BJP government has several key schemes that directly benefit the common citizens of the country. These primarily include the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, Ujjwala Scheme, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Prime Minister’s Poor Welfare Employment Campaign (Prangan), and PM-Svanidhi schemes, which are also benefiting the citizens of Himachal.
Additionally, the Mandi Lok Sabha area is Kangana Ranaut’s home district, where she was born in 1987 to a Rajput family in Bhambla. Kangana Ranaut is a well-known figure in Bollywood, with followers numbering in the millions. Therefore, in Kangana’s victory, her own name worked alongside BJP’s policies, and she succeeded in defeating Vikramaditya Singh, who comes from Himachal’s royal family.
Election Results
Kangana Ranaut (BJP) – 537,022 votes, Vikramaditya Singh (Congress) – 462,267 votes.
Vikramaditya Singh’s History
Defeating Vikramaditya Singh in Himachal Pradesh’s politics is no ordinary feat. He belongs to the royal Rajput family of Bushahr in Shimla district. His father, the late Raja Virbhadra Singh, was the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh six times, and his mother, former MP Pratibha Singh, has also been an MP several times. Therefore, defeating Vikramaditya Singh is a significant achievement for Kangana Ranaut.
What Were the Results in Himachal’s 4 Seats?
Himachal has a total of 4 Lok Sabha seats. These include Hamirpur, Mandi, Kangra and Shimla Lok Sabha seats.
Currently, BJP candidate Anurag Thakur from Hamirpur, Kangana Ranaut from Mandi, and Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj from Kangra Lok Sabha seat have secured victories. From the Shimla Lok Sabha seat, BJP candidate Suresh Kumar Kashyap is leading. Thus, the BJP is on its way to a clean sweep in Himachal.
Factors Contributing to Kangana’s Historic win
Despite facing such a formidable opponent, Ranaut emerged victorious. Her win is being attributed to a combination of factors: her own star power and the effectiveness of BJP’s policies. As a famous actress with millions of followers, her name carried significant weight. Moreover, she was contesting from her home district, which likely worked in her favor.
However, the impact of BJP’s work cannot be overlooked. Several government schemes like the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, Ujjwala Scheme, and employment guarantee programs have directly benefited many citizens in Himachal Pradesh. These initiatives seem to have resonated with the voters.
These results, especially Ranaut’s high-profile victory, reflect the interplay between celebrity status and political performance in shaping voter preferences. They also underscore the ongoing influence of the BJP’s policies and leadership at the national level.
