KBC 16 : Amitabh Bachchan Defends Gender Equality on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ After Misogynistic Remark

'Kaun Banega Crorepati' airs from Monday to Friday on Sony Entertainment Television at 9 pm, continuing to engage audiences with its blend of entertainment and thought-provoking moments.

KBC 16— In the latest episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16,’ host Amitabh Bachchan firmly addressed a misogynistic comment made by a contestant, Krishna Selukar. During a discussion about financial hardships following job loss during the Covid pandemic, Selukar made a controversial remark suggesting that unmarried women are a ‘burden’ to their families.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Powerful Rebuttal

Selukar, who had shared his experience of job loss despite holding an engineering degree, stated, “Agar main kahun bina shaadi ki ladki gharwalon par bojh hoti hai na sir, ek umar hone ke baad berozgar ladke utna hi bojh hote hai [If I say an unmarried woman is a burden to her family, then an unemployed son is also a burden to his family after a point].”

Responding to this statement, Bachchan, a staunch advocate for gender equality and women empowerment, made a powerful counterpoint. He emphasized that a woman can never be a burden to her family, highlighting her invaluable role and honor within the family. “Ek baat batayein aapko. Ladki jo hai bojh kabhi nai ban sakti. Bahut badi shaan hoti hai mahila. [Do you know one thing? A woman can never be a burden to her family. She is the biggest honour of her family],” Bachchan asserted.

Legacy of Advocacy on ‘KBC’

His tenure, except for the third season which was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, has been marked by his advocacy for social issues and his emphasis on gender equality and respect for women. Season 16 of the game show commenced earlier this month, with Bachchan opening the first episode with a heartfelt speech appreciating the long-standing support and affection from his audience.
