Killer Soup Review: Manoj Bajpayee and Konkana Sen’s new web series was released on the popular streaming platform Netflix. It shows the thrilling story which entertained the audience and the actors also left the impact with their remarkable acting. The web series failed to leave an impact on the audience because it didn’t live up to the expectations.
Story
Killer Soup is a cleverly written crime and investigation comedy that is characterised by astute writing and flawless acting. It is witty, cunning, and incredibly entertaining. One of its two main protagonists is the incompetent chef Swathi Shetty (Konkona Sen Sharma), who aspires to open her own eatery.
Prabhakar ‘Prabhu’ Shetty (Manoj Bajpayee), her conceited husband, makes a commitment to assist her but is more concerned with saving face after a string of failed business ventures. Their union is doomed to failure. Arvind Shetty (Sayaji Shinde), Prabhu’s foul-mouthed older brother, vacillates between brotherly affection and biting candour. He doesn’t miss an opportunity to annoy Prabhu with his carelessness. Prabhu blatantly takes advantage of his elder brother. There are many unanswered questions regarding the latter as well.
Disappointed with both her possessions and her lack of them, Swathi has an affair with Umesh Pillai (Bajpayee in two roles), a masseuse who works for the Shetty brothers and is well-versed in their dubious business dealings.
Performances
Although Killer Soup adheres strictly to its neo-noir aesthetic, the flawed characters that make up the story aren’t evil in the traditional sense. At worst, they are self-serving and corrupt. It’s noteworthy that not a single murder, nor the events that follow, are planned.
Sen Sharma and Bajpayee take on parts that are unlike any that they have ever played. They begin a wonderful duet, challenging and enhancing each other in a game of cat and mouse where the victim and predator frequently switch roles and the conspirators frequently work against each other. Sayaji Shinde steals many scenes, along with Nassar as the amiable inspector Lal, who pulls punches alongside Arvind Shetty’s assistant. Kani Kusruti performs with a remarkable lack of effort.
Music
Benedict Taylor and Naren Chandavarkar’s background score is a mouthwatering smorgasbord of sounds. Like ripples in a stream, they move through the show at a constant pace and rhythm, matching the rain and the winds.
