Liger (Hindi) Opening Day Box Office: Vijay Deverakonda’s film does well on day one

New Delhi: Liger, the Hindi dubbed version of the Telugu film, has started well at the box office in the Hindi belts. Early estimates place Vijay Deverakonda’s debut film for the Hindi market at between Rs 4.00 and Rs 4.35 crore. The action film had some paid previews on Thursday, earning Rs 1.25 crore. With this, Liger’s total earnings have surpassed Rs 5.25 crore. In these troubled times, the youth and masses are driving film business, and Liger catered to this demographic with the trailer.

The Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer has performed exceptionally well in the mass belts, with multiple single screens registering a houseful board. Collections in UP, Bihar, Lucknow, and other mass-market belts were comparable to Ek Villain Returns, but multiplexes remained on the low side. While a section hyped the film, creating unrealistic opening day expectations among the audience, the first day biz can be considered good in isolation, avoiding the unrealistic noise.

The buzz in terms of critic reviews is negative, and it remains to be seen if the film can push itself to a Rs 15.50 crore plus weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Given that the initial talk is negative, we don’t rule out the possibility of a flat weekend. The weekend trend will give us an idea of where the film is going. Liger has crashed in Telugu states as well as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala in terms of South Indian collections.

The South India gross for Liger is expected to be in the range of Rs 3.50 to 4.50 crore. For those who are unaware, the film grossed approximately Rs 19 crore on its first day, but the negative publicity has resulted in what can only be described as a box office crash. It’s a roughly 80% drop, and the film will almost certainly result in massive losses for distributors in Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. Please keep in mind that these are estimates, and a detailed article on how the film performed in the south will be published in the morning.
