About the case
According to CNN, 36-year-old Mitchell Taebel was apprehended on June 2 on suspicion of stalking, intimidation, invasion of privacy, and harassment. The arrest comes after months of alleged threats and disturbing messages directed toward Swift and her team.
While the LaPorte Superior Court affidavit does not explicitly name Taylor Swift, it contains several references to the singer, including her management team, 13 Management, her current tour, Eras Tour, her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, and a song from her latest album. The affidavit outlines a series of incidents where Taebel reportedly sent threatening messages to Swift, her father, and others close to her, including dancers.
One incident described in the affidavit occurred on March 29 when Taebel sent a voicemail to Swift on Instagram, expressing a disturbing sentiment of being willing to wear a bomb if he couldn’t be with his perceived soul mate. Despite security measures, Taebel managed to reach Swift’s Tennessee home on May 5, only to be swiftly escorted away by security personnel. Undeterred, he then attempted to gain access to Swift’s performance at Nissan Stadium later that evening.
Mitchell Taebel fined $15000
It is reported that Taebel, who hails from Indiana, had been placed on a security threat list prior to the concert, preventing him from obtaining tickets through conventional means. However, he managed to secure a ticket through a third-party source, leading to his removal from the venue by security and event staff. Concerns escalated further when Taebel disregarded a temporary restraining order issued on May 11, which was requested by the legal counsel of 13 Management. Despite the order, he continued to send text messages to Swift until at least May 18.
Subsequently, on June 1, Taebel was imposed a $15,000 bond for the stalking charge. The arrest of Mitchell Taebel serves as a reminder of the perils faced by public figures like Taylor Swift, who often become targets of obsessive and dangerous individuals. Swift, who has not personally addressed the situation, is no stranger to unwanted attention, having faced previous incidents of stalking and harassment.
