Mili movie review

Mili movie review: Would you ever think about getting trapped in sub-zero temperature? Mili, the Hindi remake of Malayalam movie Helen, makes us witness the horrible scenario with its lead character. The realization of that loneliness in a fast-food outlet’s walk-in freezer, that no one can hear her desperate cries for help as the doors are locked, and the mall has gone dark and deserted for the night. Mili shows that Human error and carelessness is a deadly cocktail and that’s how she finds herself trapped, her extremities turning colour as the time goes by, her entire body buffeted by the extreme cold. The important plot of the movie is if she gets through the night or not.

Survival thrillers of can be nail biting experience for the audience, where the people have to pinch themselves to believe that they are experiencing this in real life. The best people knows how to ratchet the tension, building up the right rhythm, ‘Mili’, directed by the same director who did the 2019 Malayam original is too original. The pace of the film goes slow at some points and the swell becomes the problem.

There are interesting points in the film. Dehradun based Mili Nautiyal (Janhvi Kapoor) is a disciplined daughter. Loving father (Manoj Pahwa) accepts her dreams to go Canada for a well-paid job as a trained nurse. Her father doesn’t know about her jobless boyfriend (Sunny Kaushal). The manager (Kochchar) at the fast food is like a rowdy. Her colleagues are friendly with her.

The interesting thing is the discrimination that manages to come through while the search starts for the missing Mili. A bragging cop (Anurag Arora) never leaves a chance to say bad words on young women who are out at night with their boyfriends and who work late. The entry of a good cop (Sanjay Suri) who arrives before time, feels like a hurried stratagem.

Mili learns how to survive impossible odds with a lovable little rodent for company. Janhvi Kapoor has done exceptionally well in this movie. You can see her hard work. The film should have been even more tighter and that would have made it better.
