Mission Majnu review: Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna starrer lacks drama, thrill and patriotism

Mission Majnu review

Mission Majnu review: Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Mission Majnu was premiered on Netflix on January 20. The star cast of Mission Majnu presented their best work in Shantanu Bagchi’s directorial but the lack of some important things made this an average film.

Plot of Mission Majnu

Pakistan illegally imports raw materials to create itself into a nuclear nation, keeping it a secret from the rest of the world, after blocking India’s attempt to become a nuclear power in 1974. In order to prevent Pakistan’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons, India launches its RAW network there after receiving information from undercover agents. Tariq, also known as Amandeep Singh (Sidharth Malhotra), is in charge of the mission and is personally invested in it because he wants to shed the stigma of being a traitor brought on by his father’s betrayal of the country. In Pakistan, Tariq is joined by other secret agents for the Mission Majnu, which got its name from the fact that Tariq is in love with Nasreen, a Pakistani woman (Rashmika Mandanna). Will Pakistan’s criminal conduct be revealed by India at a global forum? That is the main goal of Mission Majnu.

Film lacks creativity

Mission Majnu is a sincere attempt to make a movie about a little-known incident in Indian history; nevertheless, for a variety of reasons, the plot has been fabricated. The topic picked is intriguing and contains only a small amount of adrenaline rush as characters race against time to complete their task. The film’s climax, which occurs in the final 25 to 30 minutes, is emotionally affecting. Sidharth Malhotra, Sharib Hashmi, and Kumud Mishra’s performances lend the appropriate level of energy to the subject.

Despite the lack of a top-ten hit on the album, the music fits the story beautifully. Although the screenplay by Aseem Arora, Sumit Batheja, and Parveez Shaikh doesn’t reveal anything about the movie’s central conflict, it lacks creativity throughout. Without spending a lot of time constructing the world, Mission Majnu seamlessly transitions into the role of a mission from the very first frame, controlling runtime.

Sidharth Malhotra starrer lacks thrill

There isn’t enough drama in Mission Majnu. The movie doesn’t have those exciting high points to keep you on the edge of your seat, even though the main plot has the feeling of the characters racing against time. A movie about this topic should have included more nationalistic moments to increase the overall effect of the movie toward the end. Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna’s love story is a little underdeveloped, and the main character’s strategy for completing the task seems overly simple. To complete the task, the character doesn’t face enough obstacles. The thrill of the adventure is also missing, and it only appears in the closing 25 minutes.

Even Sidharth Malhotra’s victory over the traitor label lacks a sense of accomplishment. Chak De India’s parallel sub-track is the ideal illustration of how to redeem a character.

The production values, particularly the artificial-looking set design. The topic had a great deal of potential, but an effort to keep the approach realistic hurt its chances. There aren’t any remarkable dialogues in the movie.

Performances

Sidharth Malhotra performs a good job playing Tariq, a field agent with RAW. His character has a redemptive arc, and he is able to smoothly transition from one emotional upheaval to another. He also gives the character a sense of serenity. Although she doesn’t have much to do in terms of performances, Rashmika Mandanna and Sidharth Malhotra have a terrific connection. As an undercover spy, Kumud Mishra shows promise, while Sharib Hashmi returns with confidence and a touch of humour. Rajit Kapoor, Zakir Hussain, and Parmeet Sethi all perform admirably for their limited roles.

Due to a limited approach to drama, thrill, and patriotism, the plot of Mission Majnu, an average movie with the potential to be the next SherShaah, fails to realise its promise.
