Mithun Chakraborty: Debuted with Mirgayaa in 1976, the legendary Indian actor Mithun da at the age of 74 will receive the biggest honor of Indian Cinema. The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday disclosed Mithun Chakraborty as the 54th winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. After witnessing the news the veteran actor shared his thoughts and said, ‘Everyday was a Struggle for me.’
Mithun Chakraborty Got Emotional on Receiving Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Monday morning came as a wave of surprise and excitement for the legendary actor Mithun da. As Mithun Chakraborty is set to win the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the media asked about his feelings and journey which made ‘Sheesha’ actor emotional. He said, ‘I am dedicating this award to my family and fans across the world. My journey was not served on a platter. Every day was a struggle for me…’
On Monday, Ashwini Vaishnaw took to his X account and announced the winner. He wrote, ‘Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.’
PM Modi also congratulated Mithun da. He quoted Union Minister Ashwini’s post and wrote, ‘Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him.’
Mithun da’s Achievements
At the 70th National Films Awards Mithun Chakraborty will be presented with the 54th Dadasaheb Phalke Award. ‘Pati, Patni aur Tawaif’ actor has received three national awards. His first national film award was for his debut film Mirgayaa, he won the Best Actor award and is the only actor to do so. He is also a recipient of Padma Bhushan and two Filmfare awards. Mithun da was the highest-paid actor of his time with a fan following in foreign countries like Russia.
