Nawazuddin Siddiqui: Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has agreed to settle disputes with his estranged wife Aaliya, and get divorced. According to reports, he will withdraw the defamation suit against Aaliya as part of the settlement.
The couple has been engaged in ugly public fights for a long time now. Aaliya claimed that Nawazuddin ‘disowned’ their children. She also alleged that his mother Mehrunisa harassed her by not giving her access to the actor’s Mumbai home. Later, Nawazuddin claimed that his estranged wife was only after money. Aaliya denied the charge.
Aaliya wants children’s custody
“Divorce will happen, that’s for sure and I will also be fighting for the custody of both my kids. Nawaz has also filed for custody but I will not let that happen. Both my kids want to stay with me and don’t want to live with him,” Aaliya told an entertainment portal.
According to Aaliya’s lawyer, advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, she wants to keep the terms on settlement private. There are lot of other things involved and not just the custody of the children. He said the children have always been with Aaliya and there should be no dispute regarding their custody, especially as Nawazuddin has a busy schedule.
The lawyer revealed that Nawazuddin has already sent a draft proposal of terms for settlement. He said they were hoping a peaceful settlement will work out.
Defamation case filed
Earlier this week, Nawazuddin had filed a defamation case against brother Shamasuddin Siddiqui and Aaliya earlier this week. The actor demanded ₹100 crore and an apology letter.
However, the lawyer said they had not received any copy of the same. Besides, Nawazuddin himself has communicated the consent terms for settlement, he said.
Meanwhile, Aaliya is currently staying in a rented apartment which she has been asked to vacate soon. “I had to vacate by March 30, but I requested for a one month extension as I am unable to find another accommodation. Societies are refusing to give me property on rent because of this dispute”, she said
She also added that after the divorce, she will revert to her original name, Anjana Kishore Pandey.
