The National Basketball Association and BIGHIT MUSIC on Thursday revealed that BTS member SUGA has been appointed as NBA’s brand ambassador. As an NBA ambassador, SUGA will motivate fans around the world to engage in the ongoing NBA season and beyond. SUGA, who himself is an avid NBA fan, will also attend NBA Games and events in the US and Asia. He will also be seen participating in league’s promotional activities.

SUGA named as NBA brand ambassador

In a video shared by NBA’s social handles, SUGA said it’s personally a great honour for him to be associated with the league.

“As an NBA Ambassador, Suga will engage NBA fans around the world through the remainder of the 2022-23 NBA season and beyond. Suga, an avid NBA fan, will participate in several league initiatives that will be featured on the NBA’s and his personal social media channels, including attending NBA games and events in the US and Asia, and participating in the league’s promotional activities,” the basketball association said in a statement.

“Music and basketball have been shared passions of mine since my youth, and it’s a dream to be named an NBA Ambassador,” said Suga. “I’m excited to formalise my relationship with the NBA, and I can’t wait to share some exciting collaborations I have planned with the league over the coming months,” he added.

ARMYs react

Fans of SUGA and BTS, known as ARMY, have reacted to the development. Taking to the comment section, the fans mentioned how the K-pop idol is an inspiration and they can’t be more proud of him.

“Min yoongi is a KING,” one fan wrote, while another mentioned, “Proud! Yoongi really loves basketball since childhood and I’m sure he is incredibly happy. Please take care of him! ARMYs love him so much and are proud of him! And for everyone who does not know who he is, I advise you to listen to his track “The most beautiful moment in life” and read the translation! There is a very beautiful use of the metaphor with the game of basketball. I think the fans will love it.”

“From a basketball fan to a special NBA ambassador… Yes, he’s my man,” added another internet user.
