Days after he stoped a Marathi movie screening and physically assaulted moviegoers in Thane over its representation of Shivaji, former Maharashtra Minister Jitendra Awhad was arrested today.
A police spokesman reported that nine of his supporters had also been detained.
The incident happened on Monday night when Mr. Awhad, the leader of Shard Pawar’s party, and his supporters are accused of breaking into the multiplex in Thane city and interfering with the showing of Har Har Mahadev because of an alleged “distortion of history.”
Video of the incident revealed that some moviegoers who opposed the abrupt performance stoppage were also physically assaulted.
