Adipurush in trouble again; New complaint filed against makers of Prabhas, Kriti Sanon starrer

Adipurush: Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush created controversy after its makers released the film’s teaser. And now once again it has landed in fresh trouble after a man filed a complaint in Mumbai for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus in the film’s new poster.

One Sanjay Dinanath Tiwari registered the complaint at Sakinaka police station against the producers, artist and director Om Raut.  The complainant described himself as a preacher of Sanatan Dharma.

Religious sentiments hurt

The complaint states that “the religious sentiments of the Hindu religion society have been hurt by the filmmaker Om Raut by inappropriately displaying the character of the Hindi religious text Ramcharitmanas in the new poster of the film.”

The complainant says the poster shows “Maryadapurushottam Lord Shri Ram in a costume contrary to the natural spirit and nature of Ramcharitmanas mentioned in the Hindu scripture.” He claimed that Adipurush shows all the characters of Ramayana “without Janeu.” Janeu has special importance in Hindu Sanatan Dharma.

The film stars Prabhas as Raghav, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, Sunny Singh as Shesh, and Devdatta Nage as Bajrang. Directed by Om Raut, the film also stars Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist Lankesh.

Poster unveiled on Ram Navami

The makers unveiled the poster on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. It shows Prabhas and Sunny seen carrying bow and arrow donning armour and dhoti. Kriti is in a simple sari with her head covered, while Devdatta is seen bowing down in the service of the trio.

Adipurush is a multilingual period saga of on-screen adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Last year an FIR was lodged against director Om Raut for hurting religious sentiments. Netizens trolled the makers for poor VFX and even politicians questioned wrong portrayal of deities in the mythological drama.

The film was initially set to release on August 11 last year but the date was pushed to January 12, 2023. It is now slated to hit the screens in 3D on June 16.
