New on Amazon Prime Video: The Amazon subsidiary has been continuously pumping out movie after movie for the summer. This month, the streaming giant is rolling out the carpet for major recent releases like “The Lost City,” which is loaded with stars like Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt. However, the collection will also be pleasing for those looking for an older variety of films, ranging from Meryl Streep-studded “The Devil Wears Prada,” and “Mamma Mia!”
1. Before Midnight
Richard Linklater’s beloved “Before” trilogy is tied up neatly with “Before Midnight.” The movie continues 20 years after the first fateful train ride that brought Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Céline (Julie Delpy) together.
In the movie, the couple, who now have twin daughters, summer in Greece. The film spans the couple’s last day in Greece, as they take stock of their relationship now that the sheen of its honeymoon years has worn off. As the sun rises and falls, the Peloponnesian coast offers the perfect backdrop for two lovers gazing upon their twilight years.
2. The Devil Wears Prada
“The Devil Wears Prada” will never go out of style, especially since it stars Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. The film tells the story of Andy Sachs (Hathaway) who lands the position of a lifetime with Miranda Priestly (Streep), the intimidating editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Andy, who dreams of becoming a journalist, is hired as Miranda’s second assistant.
The major dilemma of the film is Andy having to choose between her career ambition and the life she had before changing herself to fit into her new job.
3. “The Lost City” (2022)
Reclusive author Loretta Sage (Bullock) writes about exotic places in her romance adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan. While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta gets kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city’s lost treasure from her latest story. Determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her.
The star-studded cast includes the likes of Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt, and Daniel Radcliffe.
“The Lost City” arrives on August 10 on Prime Video.
4. Mamma Mia
Yet another one of Meryl Streep’s hits, this musical film follows the life of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) as she delves into her mother Donna’s (Streep) journal to try and discover who her father is. Donna and Sophie live in Greece, and Sophie’s motivation to find her real father is partly due to her impending wedding day. Set against the backdrop of a stunning Greek island with loads of Abba hits, the film is a real fun one.
