Global icon Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas on Monday made the much-anticipated announcement as they shared the nominations for the 93rd annual Academy Awards.
For the first time, two women — Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell — were nominated for best director. While Chloe Zhao was nominated for Nomadland, Emerald Fennel bagged the nomination for Promising Young Woman. Notably, Zhao is the first woman of Asian descent to get a nomination.
For the best film category, a total number of eight films were nominated. Mank directed by David Fincher was joined by Promising Young Woman, Nomadland, Judas and the Black Messiah, Sound of Metal, Minari and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The Oscars are scheduled to take place in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, on April 25, 2021. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place in February but faced delay due to covid-19 pandemic.
