Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor

The ongoing furore surrounding Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s new film ‘Bawaal‘ has garnered further international attention, with Israel’s Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, criticising the movie. The Israeli embassy has echoed his sentiments, voicing its own concerns in an official statement.

Jewish Rights Group Calls for the Removal of ‘Bawaal’

This latest development comes on the heels of earlier calls by Jewish Human Rights groups to pull the film for its alleged disrespectful references to the Nazi Holocaust. These groups have accused ‘Bawaal’ of undermining the gravity of this historical event, which holds enormous significance for the global Jewish community.

‘Bawaal’ Director, Nitesh Tiwari, Responds to Controversy

In response to the controversy, ‘Bawaal‘ director Nitesh Tiwari has requested the public not to question the intentions behind the film. However, his plea has done little to quell the widespread criticism surrounding the film’s depiction of Auschwitz, the infamous concentration and extermination camp from the Second World War.

Israeli Ambassador and Embassy Issue Statement on ‘Bawaal’

Naor Gilon, the Israeli Ambassador to India, took to Twitter to express his concerns, suggesting the film made unwise choices in its terminology and symbolism. Although Gilon clarified he had not seen the movie, he urged viewers to educate themselves about the Holocaust before forming an opinion. In the same vein, the Israeli embassy has emphasised the importance of understanding the horrors of the Holocaust, expressing disappointment over the film’s depiction.

‘Bawaal’, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, has been criticised for a scene involving the two leading characters in an Auschwitz gas chamber. A dialogue by Janhvi Kapoor, seemingly drawing parallels between personal relationships and Auschwitz, has also been the subject of much contention.
