Vani Jayaram is a well-known playback singer in the South Indian cinema industry. The Padma Bhushan and National Award-winning vocalist died on Saturday at the age of 78. She died in her home on Haddows Road in Nungambakkam, Chennai, due to age-related difficulties. On Republic Day this year, she was named a Padma Bhushan award recipient for her over 50 years of dedication to Indian music. Jayaram, however, died before she could win the prestigious honour.
Vani Jayaram sung over 10,000 songs
Vani Jayaram began her singing career in 1971 and has since released numerous chart-topping singles. Over the course of her five-decade career, she sung over 10,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, and other languages, as well as recording devotional and private albums. She has collaborated with great composers like as MS Ilaiyaraaja, RD Burman, KV Mahadevan, OP Nayyar, and Madan Mohan.
Vani rose to prominence in K. Viswanath’s musical film Sankarabharanam (1979), where she sang five songs and won her second National Film Award for all of them. Poojalu Cheya, Ennenno Janmala Bandham, Or Idam Unnidam, Malarpol Sirippathu Pathinaaru, Ezhu Swarangalukkul, Naane Naana, and the list just goes on. The great vocalist has received four State Prizes, three National Awards, international awards, and numerous other honours.
Celebrities paid condolences to the legendary singer
Even before the South audience and celebrities could recover from K Vishwanath’s death, Jayaram’s abrupt death increased their sorrow. Many South celebrities have taken to Twitter to send their respects and condolences to Vani Jayaram.
