Pathaan controversy: The Multiplex Association of Gujarat has written to the government seeking its intervention as several theatres in the state have received threats against the screening of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan. The association has urged Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi to provide security to cinema halls when the movie releases on January 25.
The association said in its letter that large number of cinema exhibitors have received verbal and written threats in the last 20 days, asking them not to screen Pathaan.
Cleared by Censor Board
It also said that also stated that as the Censor Board and other authorities have cleared the movie, any objection about it should be taken up with them.
“There are many groups that are illegally targeting cinema exhibitors based on their own understanding and agendas by unlawfully threatening cinema exhibitors with dire consequences in terms of safety and security of their property, staff and movie-goers if certain movies are released,” the letter read.
“So, we request all kinds of support from your end regarding protecting our properties and business interest,” it added.
Uproar over song
Pathaan movie has been mired in controversy ever since its song Besharam Rang featuring Deepika Padukone and STK was released on December 12. A sequence in the song showing Deepika in a saffron bikini led to protests across India for allegedly hurting “Hindu sentiments”. Various organisations and individuals have demanded ban on the film.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra expressed his anger over the colour of the attire of Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan in a song from the movie and called for its “rectification”.
Pathaan also stars John Abraham and is scheduled to release in theatres on January 25.
