Payal Ghosh has filed a police complaint against Anurag Kashyap over alleged sexual harassment. According to media reports, the compliant has been registered at Oshiwara Police Station.
The actor’s lawyer, Nitin Satpute, has claimed that Anurag Kashyap may get 3 months of imprisonment under section 354 and 509 if found guilty.
Meanwhile, Anurag Kashya has called the claims baseless. The filmmaker in an official statement said that allegations are completely “false, malicious and dishonest.” He also informed that he has been asked to remain silent on the matter.
Payal, in her allegations, claimed that Anurag forced himself upon her. She also mentioned that the filmmaker told her that many actress including Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha and Mahi Gill are comfortable with him.
Richa Chadha has slammed Payal for dragging her name and even sent a legal notice to her for the same.
Mahi Gill, in her statement, on Monday, said that she might have creative differences with Anurag but never felt any discomfort around him.
Huma Qureshi also opened up on sexual allegations against Anurag and said that he is a dear friend. Taking to Twitter, Huma wrote, “Anurag and I last worked together in 2012-13 and he is a dear friend and an extremely talented director. In my personal experience and to my knowledge he has neither misbehaved with me or anyone else. However, anyone who claims to be abused must report it to the authorities , the police and the judiciary.”
She continued, “I chose not to comment till now because I don’t believe in social media fights and media trials. I feel really angry at being dragged into this mess. I feel angry not just for myself but also every woman whose years of hard work and struggle gets reduced to such baseless conjecture and allegations in their workplace. Please let’s refrain from this narrative. It is the joint responsibility of women and men both to carefully protect the sanctity of #MeToo. This is my final response. Please do not approach me to make any more statements on this matter.”
Payal, meanwhile, slammed people supporting Anurag Kashyap and tweeted, “There are a thousand effort everyday to suppress my voice. The plot to change the twist everyday is happening. This is what happens when someone without a filmy background raises the voices. Let the time come, the truth is going to come out.. it’s eventual #meetoo.”
Earlier many Bollywood celebrities including actor Taapsee Pannu, filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma and Guneet Monga, Anurag’s ex-wives, Aarti Bajaj and Kalki Koechlin have come out in his support.
