Ponniyin Selvan: Mani Ratnam’s historic epic series Ponniyin Selvan’s first film has created history with its Box Office Collection of nearly Rs 500 crores worldwide. The film continues to play in some theatres in Tamil Nadu and that will add more lakhs to the collection of the film. The film grossed Rs 327 crores at Indian box office and another collection of Rs 169 crores overseas has taken Ponniyin Selvan to create history with a total collection of Rs. 496 crores at the global box office.
Ponniyin Selvan became highest grosser in Tamil Nadu
With the massive numbers at the box office, Ponniyin Selvan has become the second highest-grossing film from Kollywood after Rajnikanth’s 2.0 which grossed Rs. 656 crores worldwide. But if we talk about collection of Ponniyin Selvan’s Tamil version, it also made the film biggest as it has beaten Kamal Hassan’s Vikram with the collection of nearly Rs. 50 crores. Ponnyin Selvan became the highest grosser ever in Tamil Nadu and first ever film to cross the milestone of Rs. 200 crores in Tamil Nadu.

The total business of PS1 in Tamil Nadu is Rs. 221.80 crores, which can cross the mark of 222 crores. Ponniyin Selvan has beaten the previous record by 20 percent margin. The film performed well overseas with nearly $21 million, beating $19million of 2.0 in traditional markets and the film is setting many new milestones for Kollywood films including the first $6 million in North America, $1 million in Australia and £1 million in the UK.
