Other releases
The collections may slow down from October 21 in view of Diwali releases. Films like Prince and Sardar will take over the theatres in Tamil Nadu. This is bound to slow down the collections of Ponniyin Selvan.
Ponniyin Selvan 1, that took off with Rs 1.85 crores on the first day , stayed consistent for 10 full days. The film hit the theatres on September 30 in five languages and has been earning huge moolah at the box office .
Three weeks complete
As it completes three weeks in theatres tomorrow, the Mani Ratnam-directorial has shattered several box office records in such a short period. According to trade reports, Ponniyin Selvan has crossed Rs 250 crore nett in India and is still going strong in the theatres. On its 20th day, the film is estimated to have raked in Rs 1.50 crore nett in India.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala pointed out that Ponniyin Selvan is just behind Enthiran in France.

Ponniyin Selvan: I is a Tamil-language epic historical action drama directed by Mani Ratnam, who co-wrote it with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. Produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah, it is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan.
The film stars an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban and Lal. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman. Ponniyin Selvan: I dramatizes the early life of Chola prince Arulmozhi Varman, who would become the renowned emperor Rajaraja I (947–1014).
