Ponniyin Selvan I : Mani Ratnamis’s Ponniyin Selvan I getting closer to the Rs 500 crore mark. As of Thursday, the film’s 21st day, the movie had earned Rs. 464.09 crore globally.
The film—which also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and Trisha—continues to draw big crowds to theatres even in its third week.

Rs 500 crore mark
Trade expert Manobala Vijayabalan claimed the movie is getting closer to the Rs 500 crore mark after crossing Rs. 464.09 crore on Thursday worldwide.
Taking to Twitter he wrote, “#PonniyinSelvan WW Box Office. Week 1 – ₹ 308.59 cr. Week 2 – ₹ 107.35 cr, Week 3, Day 1 – ₹ 6.76 cr, Day 2 – ₹ 12.80 cr, Day 3 – ₹ 15.68 cr, Day 4 – ₹ 5.07 cr, Day 5 – ₹ 4.23 cr, Day 6 – ₹ 3.61 cr, Total – ₹ 464.09 cr, #PonniyinSelvan1.”
The collections may slow down from October 21 in view of Diwali releases. Films like Prince and Sardar will take over the theatres in Tamil Nadu. This is bound to slow down the collections of Ponniyin Selvan.
Ponniyin Selvan 1, that took off with Rs 1.85 crores on the first day , stayed consistent for 10 full days. The film hit the theatres on September 30 in five languages and has been earning huge moolah at the box office .

Ponniyin Selvan: I is a Tamil-language epic historical action drama directed by Mani Ratnam, who co-wrote it with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. Produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah, it is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan.
The film stars an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban and Lal.
