Poovachal Khader, popular lyricist who predominantly worked in Malayalam films, passed away on Tuesday due to Covid-19 complications. He breathed his last at the state-run medical college where he was admitted for Covid treatment. He was 72.
In his career spanning over four ecased, he wrote lyrics for 400 Malayalam films, including 1500 songs.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of Khader and described it as a huge loss to the social milieu of the state.
“He will probably go down as the person who wrote the maximum lyrics for the film industry. He will be very badly missed,” said Vijayan.
“Poomaname” (Nirakoottu), “Anuragini itha en” (Oru Kudakkeezhil), “Etho janma kalpanayil” (Palangal), “Natha nee varum” (Chamaram) and so on were among the evergreen songs penned by Khader.
Khader was also a published author and wrote a number of Mappila and radio songs besides penning lyrics for movies.
Union Minister V Muraleedharan also condoled the death of the noted lyricist.
