Pushpa 2 The Rule, Bahubali 2 and Animal Have a Common Thread! Then Why Do Big Stars Eye Festivals?

Pushpa 2 The Rule: The recent trend in weekday releases doing blockbuster numbers have started a conversation around release dates. In recent social media post Taran Adarsh pointed out that Bahubali 2 and Animal did massive box office numbers despite of being working day releases. Then why is there a need to rely on festival releases? This comes three days ahead of the release of the Allu Arjun starrer.

Pushpa 2 The Rule Working Day Release

In his Twitter post Taran Adarsh pointed at the success of Bahubali 2 and Animal and the business they did without any major release date. He then says that story should be the priority of filmmakers instead of solely relying on festival release dates. Released on regular Fridays both Bahubali 2 and Animal did great box office numbers. The sequel to Bahubali did an opening day business of ₹214 crore and the Ranbir Kapoor led Animal amassed ₹116 crore on it's release day.

The Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2 The Rule will be the next addition in the list of working day releases that did massive openings. This comes on the back of the film's 6.5 lakh advance tickets sales, three days before it's release, along with reports that suggest the film's opening day box office estimate of over ₹300 crore. Moreover, there are speculations that the film might overtake the Prabhas led Bahubali 2 and Kalki 2898 AD in advance bookings.

Despite the success achieved by star led films on weekdays, still, a lot of producers eye for a festival release. This is likely a move to maximize audience turnout. However, the recent trend shows that the need to rely on festival releases might not be as necessary, if the rollout is fitting. Looking at the rollout for the Allu Arjun starrer we find out that the audience is willing to show up whenever there is appropriate hype around a release.

In the rollout of Pushpa 2, the makers have released four songs at different intervals to keep the fans engaged. All the songs are well composed and fit the theme of the release. On top of that the makers made sure to offer the people what they want. From a promo that ties perfectly to the actual rollout to release events, everything around this has been thought-out. As a result, fans can't hold their excitement for this film. This is evident by Telangana police's traffic advisory that came as a result of the film's promotional event in Hyderabad.

The Need of Festival Releases

In conclusion, the need of festival releases for big budget film can be questioned. However, there is still a place for them. Majority of festival releases offer an enjoyable family trip to the theatres. But one thing to keep in mind is exceptions. There are weekday releases that do great openings but they are few and far between.

The importance of festival releases of a star led film can be discussed endlessly. However, one film that demands all the light at the moment is the Allu Arjun led Pushpa 2 The Rule, which will hit theatres on 5th December 2024.
