New Delhi: Raksha Bandhan, starring Akshay Kumar, had a low opening day performance and had a 30% drop on its second day of release. According to a Box Office India report, the movie, which was directed by Aanand L. Rai and released on Thursday in time for the Raksha Bandhan festival, reportedly generated Rs 6 crore on day two. Raksha Bandhan had debuted with a disappointing Rs 8.2 crore on its first day of release. This takes the film’s two-day total to around Rs 14 crore. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, theatre owners cancelled 1000 shows of the film on day two, after an average occupancy that struggled to hit double digits. Similarly, Laal Singh Chaddha also witnessed a cancellation of shows.
Sharing film’s second day collection, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “#RakshaBandhan declines on Day 2… National chains remain extremely low… Mass belt is driving its biz… 2-day total is underwhelming… Needs to have a miraculous turnaround from Sat-Mon… Thu 8.20 cr, Fri 6.40 cr. Total: ₹ 14.60 cr. #India biz.”
Earlier, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh had stressed the need for the film to grow from Friday to Sunday to register a decent collection. He wrote on Twitter, “#RakshaBandhan has a disappointing start on Day 1… Mass circuits perform better [good occupancy in evening shows], but metros are extremely weak… Biz needs to grow/jump from Fri-Sun to improve its prospects… Thu ₹ 8.20 cr. #India biz.”
