Cinema halls across the country are set to resume after 6 months from October 16. As the magic of silver screen resumes, filmmakers are looking for a fresh start.
Release of many films was halted due to the covid-19 pandemic. Out of these, some movies took the OTT path, while some waited with bated breath for theatres to resume. Now that the government has allowed the theatres to resume operations, mega budget films are eyeing the appropriate schedule for release.
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, 83, starring Ranveer Kapoor will release around Christmas, the makers confirmed. Akshay’s Sooryavanshi, meanwhile, have been pushed to 2021 release.
Sooravanshi was previously scheduled for a Diwali release but has been postponed to 2021 in the wake of pandemic. However, Akshay Kumar’s another film, Laxmmi Bomb, is slated to release on OTT platform ahead of Diwali on November 9.
“We definitely don’t want to change the date of 83 for Sooryavanshi. The sport drama is still slated to release on Christmas. We have to decide on the new date of Sooryavanshi with the director and actor, but the film should release between January and March,” Mumbai Mirror quoted Shibasish Sarkar, co-producer of 83 and Sooryavanshi, as saying.
83, directed by Kabir Khan, is based on India cricket team’s victory in World Cup 1983. The film stars Ranveer Singh as former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev while Deepika Padukone will be playing the role of Romi Dev. The film also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Nishant Dahiya, Sahil Khattar and Amrita Puri.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the makers of Khaali Peeli announced that Ishaan Khatter-Ananya Panday starrer, which recently released in pay-per view format, will be released in theatres.
PM Narendra Modi, a biopic on prime minister Narendra Modi, will re-release in cinemas on October 15. The film starred Vivek Oberoi in titular role.
