Prabhas’ “Salaar” is a significant milestone for Hombale Productions. The production company declared two days before the film’s premiere that PVRInox and Miraj theatres in the Southern states would no longer be showing the movie. The ruling was made in response to claims that “Salaar” and “Dunki” in North India were trading unfairly in screenings.
Salaar withdrawals the release from multiplexes
A report has gone viral online which suggested the withdrawal of the film. The report stated, “Hombale Productions, SRK’s Red Chillies and multiplexes and single screens have talked with each other in the last week. Producers of ‘Salaar’ even met SRK and a consensus was reached that both films would take 50-50 screening rights. However, the agreement is allegedly not being followed.”
Producer Vijay Kirgandur had earlier stated that they had decided on 50/50 screening rights because they didn’t want to get into a feud over screenings. A source related to the film informed, “Despite the consensus and agreement, a lot of alleged back-and-push and manufactured rumours made single screens in North India favour showcasing ‘Dunki’ over ‘Salaar’.”
What Impact Will This Have On Theatre Owners?
The PVRInox share accounts for roughly 45–50% of the projected 5400 screens in the South. The exhibitors will witness a sharp decline in foot traffic due to this decision. There has been an increase in advance bookings for “Salaar: Cease Fire-Part 1” in India. Data shows that more than Rs 13.70 crore worth of tickets were pre-booked in India as of Tuesday, with over 6 lakh tickets sold.
