Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel finally appeared before Mumbai Police on January 8 after ignoring 3 consecutive summons. The siblings had been called in a sedition case for allegedly promoting disharmony on social media, specially Twitter. The Bombay High Court had granted them interim protections and asked the sisters to appear before the Mumbai Police today.
Kangana arrived at the Bandra station, accompanied by sister and spokesperson Rangoli, around 1 pm. Clad in a white sari with spaghetti-strapped blouse, the actor lookes as gorgeous as ever. However, she was spotted without a mask which has really garnered criticism from the general public. At a time when the country is trying to get rid of the virus completely, the actress’ flouting guidelines shows nothing but irresponsible behaviour.
Back to sedition case, well, Kangana and Rangoli were questioned for two-hour by the Police.
“Only two hours of questioning have been done. We need to record her statements regarding more than 100 tweets that she had put on Twitter,” a source told NDTV.
Munawwar Ali Sayyad, a casting director and fitness trainer, had filed the complaint against the actress at Bandra police station .
The siblings were booked under IPC sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race), 295-A (deliberate acts hurting religious sentiments) and 124-A (sedition), 34 (common intention).
Meanwhile, Earlier today, Kangana had posted a video on her Twitter handle saying she is being unfairly targeted for speaking her mind. Why am I being mentally, emotionally and now physically tortured? I need answers from this nation… I stood for you it’s time you stand for me… Jai Hind,” she tweeted.
“Since the time I have started talking about the welfare of the nation, people have started torturing me. The way I am being exploited, the entire country is watching it. My house was demolished illegally. Because I am talking about the welfare of the farmers, a lot of cases are being registered against me,” she had said.
“There is even one case against me because I laughed. My sister Rangoli spoke about the ill-treatment of doctors at the beginning of the corona-era. There is a case against her as well. My name was also added in that case even though I was not even on Twitter at the time. Usually, this does not happen, but it was done. Our Honourable Chief Justice rejected this saying that this case does not make any sense,” she had added.
