Selena Gomez and The Weeknd

Selena Gomez: American singer-songwriter Selena Gomez recently released an adrenaline pumping party anthem and the fans just can’t get enough of it. The brand new single by the artist – ‘Single Soon’ has become the slogan of every person going through a tough relationship phase. The fans are so engrossed in the lyrics that they have started giving new meaning to them. And the limit breaker was the rumor that the song referred back to Selena’s breakup with the hit pop artist, ‘The Weeknd.’ Thankfully, the singer herself has clarified that it was nothing as such.

The rumour around Selena Gomez’s new song

Just a few days ago, the music video of the new song ‘Single Soon’ was released on YouTube. In just 1 day it crossed 6 million views and the fans broke its comment section showering all the love they had. It’s been 4 days now and the views on the music video have crossed the 11 million mark. It is also trending at no. 21 on YouTube Trending for Music.

Usually, when an artist makes a comeback after quite some time, the fans take it for themselves to investigate the ‘A-Z’ behind the release. Something similar happened with Selena when fans began to interpret the lyrics of her new song more than what was required. Apparently, ‘Single Soon’ has a part where the lyrics go like this: “Should I do it on the phone? / Should I leave a little note in the pocket of his coat? (Yeah) / Maybe I’ll just disappear / I don’t wanna see a tear / And the weekend’s almost here.” The fans seem to have dwelt too much on the last line and thought that the artist was hinting toward her breakup with the famous pop artist ‘The Weeknd’ that happened in 2017. And so began the rumour that the song was linked to the singers’ breakup.

Selena’s reaction to the rumours

Selena wiped away all the circulating rumours with one swipe. On an Instagram post asking whether it was true, Selena replied, “Couldn’t be more false.” Elsewhere, the artist also made a statement referring to her content – “The music I’m doing right now is about real things that I’m walking through. It’s really powerful, strong, very pop. The theme generally is freedom—freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness.”
