Selfiee day 1 box office: The opening day collections of Selfiee, starring Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty, has come as a shock for Bollywood.
Intensifying the worries for the Hindi film industry, the Raj Mehta film saw a dismal opening at the box office. Advance bookings as also on-the-day sales for Selfiee were lower than Bell Bottom, Akshay’s lowest opener in recent years.

Dismal opening at Rs 2 – 2.5 crore
While Bell Bottom saw a fractured release due to Covid-19, Selfiee has come at a time when theatres are fully functional and box office has somewhat returned to normal. The film had a paltry opening of around Rs 2 – 2.5 crores nett.
It’s not that the film only got a low opening. Poor reviews too seem to have dealt a heavy blow to Selfiee and it seems almost impossible for the film to pose a half decent total in its eventual theatrical run. The movie industry is beyond shocked at the disastrous opening of Selfiee.
Pathaan doing much better
Poor promotions too ensured that the film doesn’t open to respectable numbers. On the other side, Pathaan is doing better on its 31st day. Film pundits had expected better business from Selfie. The industry is at its wit’s end because if a bankable actor like Akshay Kumar can’t pull audiences on the first day then what about others?
One thing is very clear from Selfiee’s poor opening. The audiences are very clear about their preferences. They know exactly what they want to see in theatre and what they can wait for to see on digital platform. Most films either hit the bulls-eye and run for weeks or just bomb on the very first day. With streaming giants not giving the kind of lucrative deals they gave to producers in the lockdown and with satellite rights too getting lower than they used to be, it can be said that things are not going to get easier from here.
